Showman P. T. Barnum epitomized century press agentry with exaggerated claims such as those about Tom Thumb and Jenny Lind. Do such promotional methods exist today? Are there examples?
Today, we have rules about false advertising. It is considered unethical, and businesses can be fined for it. I think that most businesses exaggerate how great their products work. A few examples can be found on infomercials. Generally, the infomercials show the product that they are trying to sell as doing all of these miraculous things. Most of the time, once the consumer buys the product it does not work as well as the infomercials said it would.
